LIFE does a great job with pictures but I was a little disappointed in the written content. It was factual and well done but limited in scope. Worth the money for the pictures.Product details

LIFE World War I The Great War and the American Century The Editors Of LIFE 9781683307914 Books Reviews
Great book.
Quick read. Good photos. Good overview of the American participation in the Great War-- nice format . Etc etc etc
This is a small book. Ninety-six pages and many photos.
This is an American-centric presentation for the 100th anniversary of the US entering WW1 and the so called American Century which followed.
This is not meant to be a history book as it mentions the usual how the war started and various aspects of the Europeans before the Americans became involved. It mentions famous people who were involved in the war efforts, the interaction of Teddy Roosevelt and Wilson.
It mentions how General John "Black Jack" Pershing was selected when Teddy Roosevelt wanted to build and command a regiment. Various import battles are mentioned up to the end of war and the various events that followed. For example Woman's suffrage, prohibition, the Saint valentines massacre. It finishes with how the stage was set for WWII and the effects 100 years later.
As mentioned this is a small commemorative book with many pictures. A serious WWI reader who likes details probably will not like this book.
Given as gift. Perfect for the world war 1 fanatic!
Beautifully written, what Iiked most was that the narrative read like an interesting story conveying all that one needed to know without becoming an encyclopedia. The pictures were fresh and so heartbreaking. Kudos to DANIEL LEVY. This book should be in the schoolroom and every library. Elsie Shemin-Roth
An excellent book that is a worthwhile addition to the equally excellent Time edition of WWI. A well written introduction to The Great War.
LIFE does a great job with pictures but I was a little disappointed in the written content. It was factual and well done but limited in scope. Worth the money for the pictures.
